Rebecca + Kooper | Minnesota Golf Club Wedding

I think I said “stop being so cute” about 43.5 times during this wedding. Rebecca and Kooper had a gorgeous wedding, beautiful details and surrounded themselves with great people. We started the day watching the weather, thinking we only had maybe an hour for photos. The rain held off the entire day, and we had a burst of sunlight as well! We felt incredibly lucky and it paid off in some amazing photos. Also, have you ever seen a bride run and jump into the arms of the groomsmen? Me neither, but Rebecca was 100% down with it. Check out their day below!

Rainy Wedding = Ruined Wedding? Not So Fast!

One of the most frequently asked questions that we receive during wedding season is “Soooo, what do you do if it RAINS?!”.  I want to reassure you that even if it rains, you will still have beautiful portraits and BRIGHT colors in your images! Overcast skies mean vibrant colors!  I know that rain isn’t ideal, and no bride would wish for rain on their big day, but if it happens, it happens..... and it’s going to be JUST fine!!  Some of our best weddings have been on rainy wedding days! I have literally been stuck in the rain, under a tree, with an entire bridal party.

See the image above! We all had a good laugh about it and carried on with the party. Here are a few things to remember

1. 10 minutes or a porch! All I need to create natural light portraits on a rainy wedding day is a covered area, which we can find in nearly any town or area. I also only need 10 minutes of no rain to knock out some great photos for you. The photos below were taken on a very rainy day, but there was a break in the clouds so we took advantage of it!

2. Let me worry about the pictures. You have enough to think about. If there is a chance of rain, I’ll be sure to do some extra scouting to find a covered location or two, for us to use for you first look, romantic portraits and bridal party portraits. I found this great greenhouse at a rainy wedding, and the owners were amazing and let us take cover there for some photos!

3.  Take it one step at a time.  Don’t think about your entire day and what will happen if it rains. That will only overwhelm you! Definitely have a rain plan for your venue, but then let your vendors do the work of handling the rest of the day if rain is in the forecast. I will stand out in the rain while you are protected to get the shot if I have to, and I have!

Carley + Mike | Elegant Shades of Purple Wedding | Marshall, MN

Where do I even begin with Carley and Mike's wedding? Every detail was planned out and perfected by Carley ahead of time; right down to the printed timeline for all the bridal party. I am a huge fan of a gal with a spreadsheet and a plan! I had the hardest time ever just choosing a sneak peek for them, because everything was so beautiful for their day.

To top it off, Mike and Carley are two of the most in love people I have ever met, and their love is centered in God. Carley told me that the entire day was her favorite, but the ceremony was their main focus. It was a chance for their 3 strands of a cord to be braided into one; a truly inspirational couple.

I hope you enjoy the beautiful day below, because I know I couldn't stop smiling the whole day.
A big shoutout to my amazing second shooter, Emily, who withstood the heat with me to get some amazing shots!

Nathan & Nicole | Heritage Village, Iowa Wedding

I got to kick off a beautiful, hot Memorial Day weekend on a Friday with Nathan and Nicole. This was such a laid-back, low-stress wedding that between getting ready and the first look the bridesmaids hung around and played Monopoly Deal! We headed from Nicole's family farm to the awesome Heritage Village in Sioux Center to do photos with not 1, but 2 vintage cars and were able to use the rest of the village as a fun backdrop as well.  They had a few other personal touches including the wooden box that Nathan handcrafted for Nicole for their proposal and their college alma mater flags. A little rivalry never hurt anyone right?

Their reception was in the beautiful and bright Terrace View Event Center right on the edge of the golf course and we had a MAGNIFICENT sunset to do photos with. And then to top it off we went inside to a WALL of dessert. Not one table, not two tables, but an entire wall. Nathan and Nicole know how to speak to my heart directly ;)

Take a peek at their day below!

Shout out to my 2nd shooter Kaley for her amazing help all day!

Year In Review: 2015

How can it possibly be the end of 2015 already?  I know we say it every single year, but oh boy did this year fly by!! From start to finish, 2015 was completely and utterly amazing.

Jen & Jeremy's engagement session kicked the year off to an amazing start, and we captured truly adorable moments in their brisk morning session in January!

Next came adorable little Emma's cake smash! She was full of such energy and a touch of sassy. Her mama has her hands full with this adorable charmer.

Emmett was the most adorable little guy ever, and the son of a past bride :) I was so excited when Andrea asked me to capture some images for her of their little bundle of joy.

The next session I got the absolute privilege of shooting was Emily and Zach's engagement session in Yankton. We had all gone to college together, so it was so fun to be able to explore our old stompin' grounds to capture the picture perfect snowy engagement session :)

Cade was next! I have been taking photos of Cade for the past 2 years and just love watching him grow into a handsome little guy! Cade's parents always have such fun ideas that they want to try and sometimes the best photos just come from the in-between moments, like a mama tickling her little boy.

Then WEDDING SEASON!!! :) Andrea + Russell kicked off 2015 wedding season with a brisk March wedding in Iowa. We stopped by a family farm to take a few moments to have some fun and get some amazing images by an awesome red barn, and now they will soon be welcoming their first child into the world. Time flies, and I couldn't be happier for them!

Next up was Ashley + Josh. They had a beautiful spring wedding at the most amazing golf course in the Twin Cities. I was so excited to shoot this wedding as this was the 3rd time I had the privilege of shooting among this group of friends. It is so much fun when you know the entire bridal party already! :)

Blake + Sara allowed me to capture their memories in my hometown of Marshall! They are the sweetest couple and don't even get me started on their adorable little boy, Beckett. Their day was filled with a ton of laughter, and I'm so glad I got to be apart of it.

Next, I got to see Jen + Jeremy again for their laid back, intimate wedding at Camp Lakodia. It was so awesome to see all the had work they had put into the day, with even the cupcake stands being carved by one of the groomsmen!

Zach + Cassie got married next! They had people from all over the US at their wedding in the heart of Sioux Falls and there was such amazing energy! They were definitely one of the most energetic groups of the year :)

Then I got the pleasure of being there to capture Miranda + Nolan's wedding in Brookings. These two were the sweetest couple ever, and it is so apparent how in love they are. I was so excited to be a part in their day!

Garrett's senior session reminded me how old I am getting. I used to watch Garrett for a few summers and take him and his sister to activities, and now he is a senior? Oh boy. He's still the same high energy Garrett, just taller than me now... as he points out whenever he can ;)

Liz + Troy's wedding brought me back to Marshall once again, and they had this wedding thing on point. So many amazing details, locations and personal touches; one of my favorites being the vintage car they used to make their grand exit from the church. Troy's amazing grandfather drove them off and it was just perfect.

Katie + Cody's wedding was an adventure up to Fargo! Amazing people, amazing memories, just all around amazing. I cannot tell you how much I love the both these families! I am so excited to be able to capture more memories in the future for them as Katie and her sisters bought her parents a family session for a Christmas gift! (They already opened their gift, I checked ;) No spoilers here!)

Rebecca + Joel are the sweetest people ever. Period. End of statement. Their at-home wedding was simply perfect and such a great reflection on them and their values. There were a ton of amazing details and I never stopped smiling the whole day.

Next up was Emily + Zach! I was very excited for this wedding because it was in Yankton, at the amazing church that is on the Mount Marty campus (my alma mater!).  I was welcomed with open arms and we had such a great time making special memories and creating some pretty awesome photos for them to look back on!
